Overhaul Continues

I just finished overhauling the informational waterfall pages for all of California (except Yosemite as that's next on the list).

Many of the waterfall pages have been quite improved from their previous versions as the blurbs are more beefed up and I even managed to dig up some really old waterfall movies (please forgive some of the poor quality if that's the case).

Check them out!

In The Midst Of An Overhaul

After procrastinating for several months, I've finally started the process of doing an overhaul of all the informational waterfall pages on the World of Waterfalls website. Due to the amount of work involved, this is being performed in stages, and I anticipate this will be ongoing work throughout this Summer.

So far, I've just completed the overhaul of the waterfalls of Southern California. Other sections will follow and ultimately the rest of the waterfalls we've been to around the world will also follow suit.

So have a look and see what you think about the new changes.

Hermit Falls

Julie and I changed plans this past Sunday and ended up doing Hermit Falls near Arcadia. Perhaps I was a bit cocky about visiting this waterfall as we were marginally prepared and didn't even bother to bring any guidebooks along for this hike.

Well, it turned out to be a little bit more of an adventure than we bargained for, but thankfully, we've survived the day and lived to tell about it. Check it out!

Happy Earth Day 2010!

To celebrate, I've put together this waterfall video. I hope you enjoy it!

This video is also on the World of Waterfalls website.

World of Waterfalls: An Emotive Journey

With Earth Day falling on April 22 this week, I had spent quite a bit of time pouring my heart and soul into a music video. But instead of waiting until the big day to release this work (by then you might be a little saturated with Earth Day talk and ads), I decided to publish it today (perhaps to minimize the likelihood of getting lost in all the noise that's sure to come later in the week).

Check it out and see what you think!

This was my attempt to package the raw beauty and emotion of seeing some of the most beautiful places on earth in a format that I hope will move viewers as much as the whole experience of waterfalling has moved Julie and I. Who knows? Maybe it might also move you to become a waterfalls fan or even to take action to help preserve Nature.

I've also put this video on the home page of our World of Waterfalls website.

Detian Waterfall / Ban Gioc Waterfall to be further developed for tourism in Vietnam

This is actually news that's a little over a week old, but since I'm too busy working long hours this week and this weekend (so I can't do any waterfalling), I mind as well share this bit of news.

Back when Julie and I visited the Detian Waterfall (at the wrong time of the year, mind you), we exclusively saw this trans-national waterfall from the China side. We didn't visit the Vietnam side because we weren't sure about the border-control ramifications.

Then, when news came out about Vietnam wanting to partner up with China to develop tourism more there, it definitely got our attention. Perhaps soon, it'll be easier to see the falls from both sides (like you can pretty easily do for Niagara Falls and Victoria Falls). And it might also be a reason for us to return.

It's also interesting to see that China and Vietnam once had a history of conflicts at the border here, but now are partnering up for tourism. Further reinforcing the notion that if you share your treasures, it could actually benefit you in more ways than you can imagine...

Coastal California and Bay Area Section Updated

After consecutive short-sleep nights, I've finally gotten around to finishing this update to a section of the website (Coastal California and the Bay Area) that I felt needed this update. All of the updates relate to our recent trip to the Bay Area, which includes five new waterfalls (Berry Creek Falls, Silver Falls & Golden Cascade, Cataract Falls, Carson Falls, and Cascade Falls) as well as an improved existing waterfall in Alamere Falls.

On top of that, I've also updated the travel diaries to include our latest escape.

Alamere Falls Updated

I've been staying up late to try to implement the latest updates from our latest weekend trip to the Bay Area. Alamere Falls was the first waterfall I got to update. But it doesn't end there.

There will be five new pages for the Coastal California pages in the coming couple of days. Also, the trip report/diary from this past weekend will come in the same time frame.

Stay tuned...

Latest Travel Diary From Easter Weekend

Julie and I spent another weekend doing some local hikes. However, this one felt a bit different as closures (from the Station Fire last Summer) prevented us from seeing some of our favorite waterfalls that we hadn't seen in many years. So that led us to re-visiting some familiar waterfalls seen in recent memory like Tenaja and Ortega Falls, but we did also re-visit Heart Rock Falls on Easter Sunday, which was a treat.

So I've just posted the travel diary regarding those waterfall excursions. You can check it out here.

The Heart Of Easter

This Easter weekend seemed like a rather strange one in that all of our waterfall excursions were repeats (our choices were limited since many of the ones we wanted to do this Spring were closed due to damage from the Station Fire) yet the waterfall sightings of those repeats were improved. On top of that, we saw some familiar faces of those we hadn't seen in a while as well as ended the day experiencing a strong earthquake, which fortunately for us, occurred in Mexicali, Mexico (but man that rolling motion seemed to have lasted well over a minute!).

In any case, we did revisit Tenaja Falls, Ortega Falls, and for Eastern Sunday, the Heart Rock Falls. Consequently, their corresponding web pages were updated on our site as well.

I guess this'll be my last hurrah before I trash my body going another round of working the night shift...

Southern California's Top 10 Waterfalls

After visiting local Southern California waterfalls for over a decade now, we figured it was time to take a step back and evaluate the falls that we've seen in our own backyard. We were surprised at the variety of waterfalls that exist in our neck of the woods, and that's why it's fun to do lists like these even though they're real difficult to do [when you put a lot of thought into them].

So, you wanna see our favorites? Come on in and check out our list of Southern California's Top 10 Best Waterfalls!
