Monasteries In The Sky

Currently, we're in Meteora, which is famous for cliffhanging monasteries providing very surreal gravity-defying photo opportunities. It's well over 34C up in these parts, which is more reminiscent of the desert heat we got back at home in the high and low deserts, but the monasteries provided much needed relief from the heat in their atmospheric tunnels and chambers.

There's definitely a religious theme in the couple of monasteries we went into (including the Great Meteora Monastery called "Megalo Meteora"), and if I didn't know any better, they somehow make me think of the Crusades.

We're currently taking a siesta as it seemed the locals here were doing in the late afternoon. So we took this as a cue to do likewise before heading back out in the late afternoon...
