Successful Start to Southern Waterfalling Trip

Today, Julie and I completed the first of a very successful day in Northern Georgia visiting Amicalola Falls, Anna Ruby Falls, Minnehaha Falls, and Toccoa Falls all with a combination of the beginnings of Fall colors and good waterflow.  Hopefully, our momentum continues as we make our way closer to the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Smokeys in the coming days.

For photos of our little waterfalling bonanza today, Julie posted some from her iPhone, which you can see on our Facebook page.

Solstice Canyon Falls flowing in Late Summer? Who knew?

Julie and I had been getting antsy all Summer long about doing a truly naturesque excursion.  But with the record low precipitation throughout California in Winter and Spring this year, the prospects for a worthwhile waterfalling excursion locally this late into Summer just didn't look good.

But ah, Nature surprises us in so many ways, and so it was that what appeared to be a waste of time, money, and fuel turned out to be one of the more memorable outings of this Summer!  [read more]

Tallest Waterfalls Revisited

After the latest research and field observations from recent trips, we've revamped both of our tallest waterfalls pages

A key change we've made is that we've added an additional restriction that we will now only consider waterfalls that flow reliably and with appreciable volume for an average of six months out of the year every year.  This should at least eliminate some of the smaller and ephemeral waterfalls that tend to convolute and distort lists such as this.

After all, if you were looking for waterfalls on your next trip, would you want to be wasting your time and money chasing a dinky trickle?

That's why we're constantly trying to revisit and re-evaluate what we have since we're trying to convey as much as we are certain about instead of frivolously copying from the literature.

Consequently, this has pushed out some waterfalls that have previously sat on one or both of our lists while bringing back others.  In one case, we introduced a new one based on our recent trip in France.

France Updates Complete

The last remaining pages that were yet to be created since the announcement of the France region on the World of Waterfalls website a few days ago have now been published.  Included in the updates are a vastly embellished "Other Attractions" page featuring the various non-waterfall attractions we saw in France as well as the addition of the pages of the Herisson Waterfalls, Cascade de Flumen, and Saut du Doubs.  Since Saut du Doubs also happened to be a transnational waterfall, it also was included in the regional page for Switzerland.

France Waterfalls Posted

We've finally updated the website to include a new section devoted to waterfalls in France resulting from our recent three week trip there.  So far, 17 of the 20 waterfalls have pages published.  The last three (Saut du Doubs, Herisson Waterfalls, and Cascade de Flumen) will be complete this week, so please excuse their broken links.

Later this week, we will also update the Other Attractions page for Europe as France has more than its share of non-waterfall attractions...

Check out what we've got so far and let us know what you think!

Graffiti and Waterfalls... Should we be worried?

I came across this intriguing article. And in light of what I've personally seen at places like Bonita Falls, Eaton Canyon Falls, Hermit Falls, and even Escondido Falls, are our beloved waterfalls being claimed by gangs?

Escondido's Elusive Tiers

It took us a while to finally witness what it seemed like everyone else got to witness. After all, some of Julie's friends experienced it, one of my cousins made it up there, one of Julie's cousins made it up there, and besides, it had received a lot of love on Yelp.

Indeed, it seemed like we really missed out from our first visit back in 2009. So you can imagine our relief (and pleasure) when we finally made it to the uppermost tiers of the beautiful Escondido Falls!

In fact, we enjoyed it so much that we shook up our Top 10 Southern California Waterfalls list.

And of course we also documented our adventure to get up there.

It certainly felt like an eventful day. If only we could have more of these more frequently...

Easter in Paradise... Falls, that is!

Julie and I along with our daughter enjoyed a warm, sunny day at Paradise Falls. It was nice to see it was doing well; making us realize that you don't necessarily have to go to the familiar crowded haunts to get a pretty waterfall even in a dry year...

Read about our experience!
